Experience
John P. Kinsey is a Shareholder of the law firm of Wanger Jones Helsley PC. Prior to joining the firm in 2003, Mr. Kinsey performed litigation and trial work at a national law firm in San Francisco. Mr. Kinsey focuses his practice on civil litigation in both state and federal courts, including the defense of businesses and individuals in commercial, real estate, land use, and environmental matters. He also specializes in land use and development law, and has experience in federal Indian law.
Mr. Kinsey represents and has represented national homebuilders, automobile and truck manufacturers, producers and distributors of food products, and other Fortune 500 companies. He has also represented residential and commercial developers, public utilities, and Tribal governments.
Mr. Kinsey also served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Wallace A. Tashima, Circuit Judge for the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the Honorable Oliver W. Wanger, United States District Judge for the Eastern District of California.
Mr. Kinsey was also recently named to the Rising Stars list in the 2011 edition of Northern California Super Lawyers.
Court Admissions
Mr. Kinsey is admitted to practice in all California State Courts, all United States District Courts within California, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Professional Associations
Mr. Kinsey has served as the President of the Central Chapter of the Association of Environmental Professionals since 2010. He also served as the Board of Directors' Legislative Liaison from 2010-2011. He is also the co-chair for the Association of Environmental Professionals' 2012 State Conference in Sacramento, California.
Mr. Kinsey has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Federal Bar Association - San Joaquin Valley Chapter since January 2006. He was elected President for the 2011 term. He also served as the Board's Vice President in 2010, the Board's Secretary in 2009, and as the Board's Membership Chair from 2007 through 2008. Since 2006, Mr. Kinsey has been responsible for the Chapter's annual Federal Law Clerks Appreciation Night.
In 2010, Mr. Kinsey was appointed as a Ninth Circuit Lawyer Representative for the Eastern District of California, and as a member of the Planning Committee for the Eastern District Judicial Conference. He was recently appointed as a co-chair of the Planning Committee for 2012-2013, and also as a member of the Ninth Circuit lawyer Representatives Coordinating Committee.
Mr. Kinsey is also a member of the Fresno County Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the California Association of Business Trial Lawyers.
