SUMMER ASSOCIATES
The WJH Summer Associate Program offers law students the opportunity to develop their legal skills by working alongside associates and shareholders on active files. Each summer associate is hired with the expectation that they will succeed in their assignments and join WJH as an attorney upon completion of their legal studies.
The Summer Associate Program introduces law students to all facets of litigation—from the fundamentals of legal research and writing to discovery, motion practice, depositions, evidentiary issues, and, frequently, trial practice. Summer associates receive assignments from a variety of junior and senior attorneys, including retired U.S. District Judge Oliver W. Wanger. As a summer associate, you will contribute to active litigation in various practice areas. We encourage our summer associates to seek out assignments that interest them, either to explore a practice area or to develop a new skill set.
The Summer Associate Program is an opportunity for us to get to know you, and for you to get to know us. To that end, we invite our summer associates to participate in all activities that our attorneys enjoy. This includes bar association events, weekly attorney lunches, monthly management meetings, and other social activities. We want to see that you work hard and that your work product is strong, but we also want to get to know you as a person and as a colleague and have you enjoy your summer.
Summer associates are compensated competitively. Summer associates who succeed and accept a post-graduate position with WJH receive bar preparation and exam fees, as well as a post-graduate summer stipend.
WJH hires summer associates largely through the On-Campus Interview process at law schools throughout the Western States. However, if WJH is not participating in your school’s OCI process, please apply by sending your cover letter, resume, law school transcript, and a brief writing sample (5–10 pages) to:
